Yes, this reflects my personal experience, and is was included in deposition and trial testimony that I gave in connection with the Government's litigation against the tobacco industry.

Your checking back with me is very much appreciated.

Hi Sschwa,

Thanks for contributing to Tobaccowiki! We appreciate your participation.
In regards to your contribution:

"Members of IAPAG were originally retained by the Tobacco Institute to evaluate and comment on the scientific data concerning ETS. As part of that task, members of IAPAG were asked to testify at hearings concerning ETS-related legislation, which they did for a period of time, and during which they proffered that ETS was part of the larger problem of indoor air pollution. This was used by the Institute in an attempt to refocus legislation away from ETS. After Dr. Schwartz and other members of IAPAG later demurred from this task, the Tobacco Institute established a separate "Scientific Witness Team" comprised of non-academic private consultants."

We try to provide authoritative references (including tobacco documents) for information on TobaccoWiki. Could you possibly provide a reference for the information you added? If you are Sorrel Schwartz and where there in person, you can just email me that you verify this information from personal experience. Then I can use your email as a reference for the above information. Thanks again for contributing.

March 10, 2008 - Restored deleted reference. Reference indicates a strategy the tobacco industry applied to distract attention from the ETS issue around the same time frame as the activities that were the focus of the paragraph. Reference was to an acceptably authoritative source. Anne Landman TobaccoWiki editor Anne Landman
