Rod MacAlister is Managing Director of the Africa Middle Market Fund, a private debt and equity fund targeting investments in medium sized businesses in east Africa. AMMF is an “impact investment” fund seeking high returns in wealth creation and development impact. (www.africammfund.com.) AMMF serves investors who prefer investment over charity in reducing poverty, and investees who prefer the market and accountability over donor aid.
Mr. MacAlister previously served as President of the US African Development Foundation, an independent government agency (www.usadf.gov). He oversaw a $47MM portfolio of SMEs in 16 countries.
From 2003-2006, MacAlister ran a consultancy specialized in doing business in conflict zones (www.businessandconflict.com).
For 25 years prior to that, MacAlister worked for ConocoPhillips (www.conocophillips.com). Most of his work was performed in Angola, the Congo, Nigeria, Libya, Syria and Iran. He led multiple negotiations, was involved in many social investments in Africa, served as Country Manager in the Congo, and headed the Washington DC office.
