Talk:National Federation of Independent Business: Research Foundation
National Federation of Independent Business: Research Foundation serves as the research arm of the National Federation of Independent Business with the aim of "promoting greater understanding of small business and the conditions that impact it" by producing "various studies on small business" and the impact of public policy.[1]
Biased Research?
In late 2012, the research foundation conducted a study of attitudes towards taxes with 12,500 randomly sampled NFIB members. 81% of the respondents agreed that "spending cuts should take priority over tax increases to reduce the [federal budget] deficit":[2] compared to the data from independent polls from the same period, this figure seems inflated. In a 2012 Gallup poll, for example, 66% of Republicans and 23% of Democrats preferred spending cuts as the preferred way of reducing the federal budget deficit.[3] This discrepancy casts doubts on the NFIB claim that its members represent a cross-section of small business owners.
