Having placed this here, I want to add that memetics is not all that, but the concept does provide a linguistic framework for studying the spread of ideas. The concepts represented as memetics, especially appeals to primal urges, are not new. The idea of memes provided a better theoretical framework for integrating knowledge emerging from diverse sciences, especially evolutionary biology. The studies of biological psychology, of neurophysiology and of developmental biology, outside the study of memetics, have likewise contributed to an understanding of how ideas are formed in the human mind, and have grown from an understanding of evolutionary biology.
