Talk:James E. Enstrom
I have just set this up as a stub, it will be expanded a little later so donlt worry about the lack of links etc for the moment. cheers --Bob Burton 19:30, 20 Oct 2006 (EDT)
I don't have much time to wade through the latest batch of changes made by Enstrom to his own page but on a quick read through a lot of it seems of marginal value in SourceWatch. The style of a first person endorsement written in the third person is inappropraite for SW.
- I don't know why he keeps deleting his inclusion in the United States category but I have reinstated it;
- While in principle I have no problems with a category on Epidemiology, I suspect it is likely to remain a category with only one entry as I suspect Enstrom isn't going to add further content to the category; in which case it is a bit pointless I suspect;
- I have deleted the following from the article page. a) it seems a bit irrelevent b) the reference doesn't support the statement and c) the reference link is only to the home page of Who's Who, contrary to our referencing policy. d) I have no idea whether they reviewed the quality of his work in deciding whether to include him in Who's Who or not - I suspect not;
- The high quality of his epidemiologic research has been recognized by the fact that since 1990 he has been listed as an epidemiologist in Who’s Who in America [1].
Anyway, I'll try and return to this tomorrow when I get a moment. --Bob Burton 03:50, 31 October 2006 (EST)
I have shifted the large slab of text added by Enstrom but written in the third person to a linked page. I have re-written it to the first person, named the page James E. Enstrom in his own words, added bolded links to it at the head of the main article page and at the foot of the tobacco section and protected the page so that only sysops can edit it. This seems to be the simplest way of letting Enstrom have his say, make it clear it was his view but preclude his statements from being open to being re-written by others and leave the main article page open for general access editing. --Bob Burton 18:28, 2 November 2006 (EST)
Prop 8
Hi Ya'll,
I'm new to Sourcewatch so I'm not really sure what information goes into these articles, but I pretty much accidentally stumbled on a detail you might or might not want to conclude. It seems the James Enstrom donated $250 to support proposition 8. It might indicate a particular political bias.
I found this information looking at http://www.eightmaps.com/ (Near the 405, north of westwood), and got interested when I saw this guy's career was listed as scientist. He's probably also on this list, although I haven't confirmed, because it is long. http://cal-access.ss.ca.gov/Campaign/Committees/Detail.aspx?id=1302592&session=2007&view=received
Is this detail worthy of inclusion in this article? I know wikipedia has very particular BLP standards. Zosima 02:23, 19 January 2009 (EST)
20 January 2009, 11:09 AM MST Hi Zosima,
I was unable to find the information you mentioned about Enstrom's donations in support of Proposition 8 on the eightmaps.com website, despite clicking every marker around the Westwood area of Los Angeles. I also was unable to locate the info on the other site you indicated. The info might be of some marginal interest if you can cite an "airtight," authoritative primary reference for it.
