Talk:Australia Revokes Scott Parkin's Visa
A recent edit deleted the statement that an ASIO briefing for Despoja was approved. I'm not sure what the basis for the deletion was but the original statement was based on the Hansard in which she stated "Senator Brown has apparently been denied a briefing by the government. I put on record that my effort to get a briefing from the Attorney-General’s office has been responded to positively on the basis of process grounds but obviously not a willingness to reveal more information." I reverted the edit of 59.167.80.222 - the original explanation by the Dept of Immigration for Parkin being arrested was on "character grounds". This is what the citation accompanying that sentence refers to. Changing it to the later claim of "national security" - which emerged as the controversy grew, is unsupported by that reference. It may be a semantic point but to be detained - which is really a blander word for imprisoned - Parkin was first arrested.--Bob Burton 00:00, 30 Sep 2005 (EDT)

some people I know have brought up the question of whether the http://www.scottparkin.org/ website may be a hoax. Is there a way we can solve this? A note from Scott?

Hi Ned, and thanks for your e-mail. No, http://www.scottparkin.org isn't a hoax. The group Friends of Scott Parkin Inc. and the website were set up after Scott's deportation to provide some sort of structure to support ongoing campaigning to clear Scott's name. The people involved are listed at http://www.scottparkin.org/about.htm. We talk to Scott regularly via e-mail and VoIP.
