Sustainable development

According to the United Nations (UN), sustainable development is defined as "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."[1]

At the UN, the Division for Sustainable Development, (DESA), "promotes sustainable development by facilitating, monitoring and coordinating activities taken to achieve this global goal by Governmental, Inter-governmental and Non-governmental actors. The Division's mandates are based on Agenda 21 and other outcomes of United Nations Conferences on Environment and Development (UNCED)[2].[3]
