On Dec. 4, 2011, a top China official said Bangladesh and China are set to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to build a 1,320 megawatts (mw) coal-fired power plant in Chittagong under a joint venture. In February 2016 it was reported that the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB earlier signed MoU with Indian [[National Thermal Power Company]] ), China Huadian, Tenaga Nasional Berhar (NTPCTNB) in September 2010 , Powertek Energy, and Malaysia will form a joint venture to build another 1,320MW power plant built a 2 x 660 MW coal in KhulnaMaheshkhali, near Mongla Port.
