==Coal Plant Closure==
In February 2008, addressing violations of New Source Review provisions of the Clean Air Act, Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo reached a settlement with RG&E requiring the company to shut down its coal-burning Russell power plant in the Town of Greece. The agreement mandates that if RG&E replaces the plant, it must be with a more efficient, cleaner, lower carbon dioxide-emitting natural gas plant. The settlement also requires RG&E to pay a civil penalty of $200,000 to New York State and $500,000 to fund air pollution reduction projects in Orleans, Monroe, Wayne, Ontario, and Livingston counties.<ref>[http://www.oag.state.ny.us/media_center/2008/feb/feb20a_08.html "Cuomo Announces Settlement to Close Rochester Gas & Electric's Coal-Burning Russell Power Plant"] Office of the Attorney general Media Center, February 20, 2008</ref>
