Biographical Information
Sir David Green "was Director-General of the British Council, the UK’s cultural relations organisation from 1999-2007. In 2007 the British Council had 240 centres in 110 countries and a staff complement of 7,500. From 1990-1999 he was Director of Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO). In 1999 VSO had 2,000 volunteers sharing their skills and experience in 60 countries. From 1976-1990 he worked for Save the Children in a variety of roles culminating in the post of Deputy Director-General. He is Chair of The Prince's School of Traditional Arts and on the Board of The Royal Court Theatre and the London University of the Arts; he was awarded the CMG in 1999 and the KCMG in 2005; he is a Freeman of both London and Freetown."
