Professor Robert O'Neill is the "Chairman of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, a Director of the Lowy Institute for International Policy, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Graduate School of Government, University of Sydney, an adjunct professor in the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre of the Australian National University and President of the Rylstone and District Historical Society." "After graduating from practical experience as an infantry captain in the Viet Nam War, he published two books on that war. He taught at the Australian National University from 1969 to 1982, where he was a senior fellow in international relations and head of the Strategic and Defense Studies Centre. His work there focused on Korea, China, and Southeast Asia. He was director of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, London, and expanded the Institute’s research into East Asia and the Pacific. Professor O’Neill moved to Oxford in 1987 and continues to write and teach on Asian and Pacific security issues. In 1996 he was a member of the Canberra Commission on the Elimination of Nuclear Weapons. He was a board member of the Salzburg Seminar from 1992 to 1996, and has served on several Salzburg Seminar faculties, including Session 301 on Japan, Europe and North America: Toward a G-3 World? He received a D.Phil. in modern history from Oxford University." [1]
