Richard L. Olver, known as Dick Olver, succeeded Dick Evans as Chairman of UK defence manufacturer BAE Systems on 1 July 2004.

"Dick Olver was appointed Chairman of BAE Systems plc in July 2004. Prior to that he was Deputy Group Chief Executive of BP plc from January 2003. Dick was appointed to the Board of BP and became Chief Executive, Exploration and Production in January 1998. He continued his association with BP as Deputy Chairman of TNK-BP from July 2004 until October 2006.

"Dick joined BP in 1973 and held a wide variety of positions in the upstream oil and gas business as well as Corporate planning and strategy.

"He is a chartered engineer with a First Class Honours degree in Civil Engineering and is also a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers. In November 2004 Dick was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Science from City University, London and in July 2005 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and subsequently served on their Council from July 2006 to July 2009. In June 2006 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Science from Cranfield University, Bedfordshire.

"Dick is an Adviser to Clayton, Dubilier and Rice and HSBC. He is a member of the Prime Minister’s Business Advisory Group. He is also a UK Business Ambassador, a member of the Trilateral Commission and a member of the GLF Global Leadership Foundation.

Dick is a past non executive director of Reuters and Thomson." [1]
