Regulating lobbying/United Kingdom
In June 2007 the U.K Public Administration Committee launched an investigation into the lobbying industry. The inquiry specifically aims to address "the transparency of the lobbying industry, the effectiveness of recent attempts at self-regulation, and whether the rules for those in Parliament and government should be changed." [1]
In October 2007 the commitee will visit Washington D.C. to research the U.S. system for regulating lobbying. [2]

Reaction of the PR and Lobbying Industry
In July 2007 the vice-chairman of the PR company Edelman Europe, Michael Burrell, expressed wariness that the U.K. government might emulate the U.S. regulatory standards. "I think that our self-regulatory system works remarkably well," he told PR Week. [3]
