Richard A. Marker

"In a professional career, which began in 1968, Rabbi Dr. Richard A. Marker has been the CEO of a major philanthropic foundation, a professor, a university chaplain, senior executive of an international not-for-profit organization, and a management consultant. In these capacities, he has lectured throughout the United States and on 5 continents.

"Currently, Dr. Marker serves as Senior Fellow at NYU’s George Heyman Jr. Center for Philanthropy where he teaches and coordinates the graduate certificate program in Funder Education. He is also co-principal of Marker Goldsmith Advisors, specializing in advising philanthropists and foundations on strategic philanthropy and issues of family involvement. He lectures extensively on trends in philanthropy.

"Previously, he served as CEO of the [[Bronfman [Seagram] Foundation]]; as international vice president of Hillel; as head of its mid-West office; and as Jewish chaplain at Brown University.

"In addition to NYU, Dr. Marker has taught at Hofstra, Loyola of Chicago, and Brown University [tenured 1976.] He has degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, Jewish Theological Seminary, and Brown University.

"Over the years, he has served on numerous local, national and international boards. Among his current leadership involvements in addition to MAZON are: Co-Chair, Board of World Religious Leaders; Vice Chair, International Jewish Committee on Interreligious Consultation, Chair of Grants Committee, Abraham Fund; and board member of Bikkurim. He is married to Mirele Goldsmith, Ph. D, an environmentalist and consultant specializing in program evaluation for not-for-profit organizations, and is the father of Adam, a public interest attorney in Washington." [1]
