The Natural Products Association, "or NPA, has a history that dates back to the 1930s. It has been known by different names, including the American Health Foods Association from 1936 to 1951, the National Dietary Foods Association in the 1960s to the National Nutritional Foods Association in 1970. The association has helped push passage of several legislative acts, including the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act in 1994 and the launching of the Good Manufacturing Practices or GMP for dietary supplements in 1999."
