Michael S. Dell

Michael S. Dell is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the computer company Dell Inc. (web), which he founded in 1984.

In 2000, Dell was described as "a friend and contributor to Republican Texas Gov. George W. Bush." [1] During his 2000 presidential campaign, Bush had "a 440-member technology advisory council ... led by Michael Dell." [2]

Dell contributed to both Bush's 2000 and 2004 political campaigns. [3] For the 2004 campaign, Dell supported Bush publicly by "lending his name to the campaign in several published letters and editorials." [4] Dell also donated $250,000 to Bush's second "inaugural festivities". [5]

In 2003, under proposed Bush administration tax cuts, Dell was projected to "reap $6 million [in one year] if the plan [was] enacted." [6]

Aspartame

"In March 2000, Monsanto merged with two other companies to form the Pharmacia Corporation. The NutraSweet Company (web) was divided and sold. The company's tabletop sweetener division, comprised of the Equal and Canderel brands, was purchased by Tabletop Holdings, an investment group formed by Pegasus Capital Advisors, computer mogul Michael Dell's MSD Capital (web), and Brener International." On March 20, 2000, the "new company was formally launched under the name Merisant (web)." [7] In 2002, Monsanto was spun off to become a separate company.

In August 2006, the product was "owned by four companies", Ajinomoto (web), "Merisant (a bunch of Monsanto managers)", J.W. Childs Associates, L.P. (web) of Boston, and MSD Captial, Dell's investment company. [8]
