McDonnell Douglas Corporation (MDC), once the fourth largest U.S. plane manufacturer, merged with Boeing in 1997. MDC started in 1967 with the merger of Douglas Aircraft Company and the McDonnell Company. McDonnell was the stronger company and basically took over Douglas Aircraft. In 1972, MDC built the F-15 fighter plane. After the 1997 merger, Boeing, Lockheed, and Europe's Airbus were the three major aerospace companies. [1] [2]
