"Marilyn Foster Hendee, BA; MA; was raised in an outdoor oriented family with 2 brothers and a sister in Burbank CA. She then attended Westmont College in Santa Barbara earning degrees in both Literature and Education, taught Elementary School in Berkeley, CA Public Schools for 10 years, while having a son and daughter, then teaching another year on Galiano Island, British Columbia.

"Then, in a major career change she joined the non-profit organization, “Rites of Passage” in Novato, CA as Youth Director [1979-83], recruiting and taking groups of young people, including many at-risk youth, on self-discovery Wilderness Vision Quests. Leaving Rites of Passage in 1983 she formed her own Vision Quest program for youth & adults called “On Your Own”, which evolved over 4 years into a non-profit corporation, “Wilderness Transitions Inc. [1987-2003] in Sausalito, CA, and during this time also earning an MA degree in Psychology from Sonoma State University [1987]. During all this time Marilyn was also active among a growing community of Vision Quest Guides and became a founding member and first Netkeeper [1992-2001] for a new “Wilderness Guides Council,” the International organization of Vision Quest and Rite of Passage Guides, for which she remains an active elder member.

"Marilyn retired from active Vision Quest guiding in 2003 and is now a devoted Grandmother while remaining actively involved in service organizations such as Agesong; her spiritual community, Wakan; The WILD Foundation, working to preserve wilderness and wildlife worldwide; and now Stepping Stones. She lives in San Rafael, CA with her husband, John Hendee."[1]
