Ko-Yung Tung
Ko-Yung Tung "is Vice President and General Counsel of the World Bank. Among many tasks, he manages the Bank’s legal department, assists the Bank’s Executive Directors in the application and interpretation of the Bank’s Articles of Agreement, and provides advice to the Bank’s senior management on matters of law and policy.
"Mr. Tung, 52, received his BA in Physics from Harvard where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He received his Juris Doctor degree in 1973 from Harvard Law School. After graduating from Harvard, Mr. Tung joined Debevoise and Plimpton as a general corporate associate. In 1976, he and a partner formed their own legal boutique, Tung and Drapkin, where he took on corporate law responsibilities. In 1985, the firm merged with O’Melveny and Myers. In addition to being a member of the firm’s Management Committee, Mr. Tung chaired the firm’s Global Practice Group, an interdisciplinary team of 186 lawyers around the world. He is also personally responsible for more than 300 clients.
"Mr. Tung has served as a director of various business, cultural and educational boards. In April 1996, President William Clinton appointed him to the Commission on United States Pacific Trade and Investment Policy. He also serves as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors of the East-West Center and co-chairs the Advisory Committee of Human Rights Watch/Asia.
"Mr. Tung, a naturalized American citizen, speaks Japanese, Chinese and French. He joined the Bank on December 6, 1999." [1]
