Background on Plant

PLN is currently building a two-unit coal-fired power plant with a total planned capacity of 120 MW in Central Kalimantan Province.[1] The construction contract was awarded back in January 2008, to a consortium consisting of China National Heavy Machinery Corporation, Shandong Electric Power Group (a subsidiary of Shandong Energy), and Mega Power Mandiri.[3]

As of October 2014, construction was 83% complete. The plant is scheduled to be completed in May 2015.[2][4]

Although the plant is almost complete, land claims for the site are apparently still in dispute.[2]

In June 2015, workers from the plant were in training for plant operations, and startup appeared to be imminent.[5]
