Description

Imperial Tobacco of Canada, Limited, was a successor to a number of other companies dating back to the 1880s. It was incorporated under the laws of Canada on April 3,1912, at which time shares were first offered to the Canadian public. Imperial Tobacco, as its name implied, was principally involved in the manufacture and distribution of tobacco products. Since tha time, the company has diversified and the name was changed to Imasco in September 1970 and is derived from the first two letters of the words IMperial and ASsociated COmpanies.[1]

Today Imasco Ltd., is a tobacco, fast-food and retailing company headquartered in Montreal, Canada. Imasco was the leading Canadian tobacco Company in 1994.(WP d7/5/94) Imasco's stock symbol is T . IMS.(Dow Jones 7/26/94)

Imasco Ltd. of Canada is a subsidiary of British American Tobacco (B.A.T.) Industries Inc. Imasco Ltd. of Canada is the parent of Imperial Tobacco Ltd. Imasco Ltd. of Canada was an operating group under B.A.T. Industries P.L.C. of London in 1985.(R.G. Baker LT 2/4/85 & chart Brown & Williamson#68052459). Imperial Tobacco Ltd. was 100% owned by Imasco in 1985.(R,G. Baker LT 2/4/85 & Chart Brown & Williamson#68052458).

Imperial Tobacco is a subsidiary of Imasco Ltd. in Canada and produces Player's and du Maurier brand cigarettes, Canada's two leading brands in 1994. Imperial tobacco had a 64.5% share of the total Canadian cigarette market (domestic and export manufactured cigarette shipments by the three major companies) in June 1994. CT Financial Services was a subsidiary of Imasco Ltd. in 1994.(DJ 7/26/94) UCS Group was also a subsidiary of Imasco Ltd. in 1994.(Dow Jones 7/26/94).
