Initiative for Social Action and Renewal in Eurasia

"ISAR: Resources for Environmental Activists was founded in 1983, as the Institute for Soviet and American Relations, to encourage citizen diplomacy and facilitate exchange between the US and the Soviet Union. For more than 20 years, ISAR has worked with a network of offices and partners in Belarus, Central Asia, the Caucasus, Russia, and the Western NIS. ISAR's mission is to support citizen activists and grassroots nongovernmental organizations in their efforts to create just and sustainable societies. It carries out its mission by building advocacy skills, supporting community environmental problem-solving initiatives, galvanizing international environmental campaigns and increasing public participation in environmental decision-making. Currently, ISAR is implementing that mission most actively in Belarus, with an information and small grant program." [1]

"Today, ISAR's offices in Russia continue to operate as indigenous organizations, much like ISAR-initiated programs in Kyiv and Tbilisi. ISAR's work in Belarus also continues, thanks to the generous support of the C.S. Mott Foundation and ISAR's volunteer board, staff and advisors help to maintain ISAR's legacy." [2]
