The Stanley M. Herzog Charitable Foundation describes its mission as to " catalyze and accelerate the development of quality Christ-centered K-12 education so that families and culture flourish." The foundation promotes the story of Stan Herzog who " started a railway construction business in St. Joseph, Missouri... he’s well known by a lot of people through his business and his impact on the transportation area all across the country...Stan truly had a heart for Christian education. He was a large supporter of St. Joseph Christian School in St. Joseph, Missouri. That’s where all his kids went. When he passed away in 2019, Stan left a huge part of his fortune to create the Herzog Foundation. "
The legacy of stan and his posthumous foundation strives to make an ecosystem of Christian education more accessible and suitable for families across the nation. [1]

The Herzog Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

News and Controversies

Herzog seeks to become the ‘epicenter of the school-choice movement’

In a July 2023 report by Annelise Hanshaw, she exposes Herzog's formation of the ACE Alliance. The alliance sets out to build "a nationwide coalition of Christian education supporters,” according to Chris Vos, scholarship director at Herzog Tomorrow Foundation. The program seeks to use a Missouri tax credit that allows the foundation to support Christian education. Herzog's influence over education only continues to grow as it is in the process of creating private education programs for prospective students. [2]

Herzog Wants to Use Tax Dollars to Fund Christian Schools

In September 2021, The Herzog Foundation filed an amicus brief in Carson v. Makin, a case before the U.S. Supreme Court. According to the foundation, "The big idea is, when states fund public dollars to private academies, they should make no bones about whether or not those campuses are dedicated to a Christian or other religious background." In contrast, opponents argue that money should be saved for public education or programs that at least have to follow the same rules as any school district. President of the Herzog Foundation, Rev. Darrell Jones, said on the matter “As the status quo goes, all tax dollars for education have, at least in the state of Missouri, gone into one system, whether that’s best system or whether that’s a failing system or whether that’s an inferior system.” [3]

Herzog Attacks the CDC

On January 4th, 2023, The Herzog Foundation published an article titled “CDC announces new disease: conservatism.” The piece "bemoaned that the guidance did not align with the CDC’s goal of eradicating disease, 'unless the disease in question is conservative values. In that case, the CDC is certainly doing its part to eradicate it.'” [4]
