Fu Xinyuan
Fu Xinyuan (or Fu Xin-yuan) is the founder and (in 1997 at least, Treasurer) of Human Rights in China. [1]
He is Associate Professor of Pathology at Yale University School of Medicine. [2]
On May 10, 1999 Fu Xinyuan along with Eugene M. Chudnovsky, A. Erzan and Larry Shepp [3] particapted in a presentation called: Human Rights and Social Responsibilities of Scientists. [4]
"Dr. Fu Xinyuan came to the USA in 1982 through the CUSMBEA (china-US Mol. Biol. Exchange Application) program. He received his Ph.D. degree from Columbia University with a molecular biology major in 1987. After a postdoctoral training in Rockefeller University, he worked as a assistant Professor at Mount Sinai school of Medicine in New York for a couple of years. Dr. Fu joined Department of pathology at Yale University, School of Medicine in 1994. Currently, he is the associate Professor in both Department of Pathology and Immunobiology Track . He is also the founding director of the Tsinghua Institute of Human Genome Research. Dr. Fu's research focuses on molecular mechanism of signal transduction from cytokine receptors to transcription factors. He is the person discovered the PTK/STAT signaling pathway and elucidated its roles in cell cycle control, apoptosis, immune responses, development, and human diseases. Today, almost all major pharmaceutical and biotech companies in USA have research programs related to STAT functions.
"Dr. Fu is actively involved in various academic activities with distinguished professional honors. He has been served as the member of Nuclear Acid Study Section in American Cancer Society, Cancer grant review committee at Yale Cancer Center, Advisor board, the Israel Science Foundation, etc." [5]
