Biographical Information

"Edward left home when he was 18 and lived in Brazil from the age of until age 21, learning Portuguese fluently and stopping speaking English in the process. He travelled round the world in 1977, visiting the Royal Chitwan National Park in Nepal and making plans to set up the International Trust for Nature Conservation, key elements of which lead to an active involvement in environmental and philanthropic issues.

"Edward is a member of the Hoares' Bank Family Forum where his responsibility includes the distribution of funds of the Golden Bottle Trust (a continuation of the philanthropic commitments and ideals of the Hoare family since the 1700s).

"Edward worked in the Bank of London & South America in Rio de Janeiro Brazil from 1968 – 1971. He trained as a Chartered Accountant from 1972 – 1976 and travelled round the world in 1977.

"In 1978 Edward joined Hoares’ Bank and became a Bankers’ Agent (Director equivalent) involved with protecting the bank’s business interests.

"In the 80s and 90s Edward designed relational databases, free format search mechanisms, risk management systems and a location-based interactive guide system.

"Edward is interested in philanthropy, governance and accountability, raising standards, social entrepreneurship and changing the world. He is an amateur ornithologist and wildlife gardener, and his other interests include Countryside pursuits and pioneering GPS interactive guide technology."
