Douglas Hocking was a co-author of a book called Australia at the Crossroads which became the driving document for the formation of the Crossroads Group, which had an important role for the development of the radical neo-liberal movement in Australia (during the 1980s). Crossroads no longer exists.

Hocking (who used to be a Chief economist at Shell Australia) was also influencial in the development of the Centre for Independent Studies, which was Australia's first 'neo-liberal' think tank.
