"Dorothy Q Thomas is an independent consultant on human rights. She currently serves as the senior program advisor to the US Human Rights Fund. From 1990 - 1998 she was the founding director of the Human Rights Watch Women’s Rights Division. She is a 1998 MacArthur Fellow and a 1995 Fellow of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University. In 1998 she received the Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights Award from President Bill Clinton. She is the author/editor of several articles and reports on human rights, including Into the Bright Sunshine: The Value of Human Rights in the United States, and Close to Home: Case Studies of Human Rights Work in the United States. She holds an MA from Georgetown University, which awarded her an honorary doctorate in 1995. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Ms Foundation for Women and serves on the advisory boards of the ACLU human rights project, Breakthrough Communications, the Four Freedoms Fund, Human Rights Watch’s US program, and the US Human Rights Fund."
