The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) describes itself as "the voice for business across Government".[1] BERR states on its website that it has an "annual budget is just over £3 billion. Half of this is spent on nuclear decommissioning; the rest on a range of issues from trade promotion to energy security supply, to championing entrepreneurial businesses through the Regional Development Agencies."[2]
BERR's Energy Group plays a central role in the development and implementation of the UK government's energy policy. One of the five core objectives of the department is to "ensure the reliable supply and efficient use of clean, safe and competitively priced energy."[1]
BERR is a UK government agency which was created in mid-2007, along with the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, to supersede the Department of Trade and Industry.[3]
