{{#badges: CoalSwarm|Navbar-Australiacoal}} The Collinsville Coal mine is an open cut coal mine produces steaming coal and coking coal for export and domestic markets. The mine is located in the northern part of the Queensland Bowen Basin.[1]

On its website, Xstrata Coal states that the Collinsville Coal mine is "part of the NCA Project" which "includes the Newlands open cut operation and underground longwall operation, the Collinsville open cut mine and the Abbot Point coal terminal."[1]

Ownership

The Project is a joint venture between Xstrata Coal (55%), Itochu Coal Resources (35%) and Sumitomo (10%).[1]

History

On its website Xstrata Coal states that "Collinsville was recognised as a potential coalfield as early as 1866. After successful mining trials, first underground mining began in 1919. In 1952 MIM acquired an interest and gained a controlling interest in 1972 merging private and state owned mines. Xstrata acquired MIM in 2003."[1]
