New Humanitarian Crusader is a term coined by Edward S. Herman and David Paterson to refer to a group of intellectuals, journalists, and academics who have chosen a side in a war, and proffer arguments for "Western humanitarian intervention" in general, but US military intervention in particular.[1] Herman and Paterson write:
- The defining characteristics of the New Humanitarians are that (1) they take sides, and have done so in parallel with NATO policy; (2) they reject traditional humanitarianism's principles of neutrality, impartiality, independence, non-violence, and the provision of care; and (3) they advocate a "humanitarian" right to intervene by state violence to terminate human rights abuses.
