Bellevue/NYU Program for Survivors of Torture
The Bellevue/NYU Program for Survivors of Torture "was established in 1995 when a small group of dedicated health care professionals from Bellevue Hospital Center and NYU School of Medicine came together to provide multidisciplinary primary care for survivors of torture. Program Director and primary care physician, Allen Keller, had previously worked in refugee camps on the Thai/Cambodian border." [1]
"In the nearly 10 years the Bellevue/NYU Program for Survivors of Torture has offered services, we have cared for over 1500 men, women, and children from more than 70 countries worldwide. The diversity of our clients reflects the international population of the New York City area and the widespread prevalence of torture and other human rights abuses in the global community." [2]
