Andrea Strimling "is Commissioner for International and Dispute Resolution Services with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) and Director of FMCS’s new Inter-Organizational Cooperation Program. She is responsible for a wide range of conflict resolution, training, and consulting projects in the United States and abroad focusing on conflict management, democratization, and societal peacebuilding.

"Her projects have included working with Indonesian governmental and non-governmental leaders to strengthen their capacity to prevent and resolve violent conflicts, training Indonesian labor mediators in mediation theory and practice, training Kashmiri parliamentary leaders in negotiation and multi-track diplomacy, advising Burmese human rights and environmental leaders on the integration of conflict resolution approaches into their work, advising the Bulgarian Labor Ministry on the design of a new labor mediation agency, training Peace Corps overseas staff in conflict management, and training US Army Special Forces in negotiation. In 2002, she represented FMCS on the US government delegation to the Stockholm International Forum on Truth, Justice and Reconciliation, and in 2001, she represented the agency as a Fulbright Senior Scholar and Visiting Professor of Political Studies at Rand Afrikaans University in South Africa. She is deeply committed to inter-organizational and inter-field collaboration and has played leadership roles in efforts to promote effective on-the-ground collaboration, including serving as Vice-Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Alliance for International Conflict Prevention and Resolution (AICPR) and on the Council of Trustees for the Chaordic Commons. She has received three Special Act Awards from FMCS for “exceptional contributions to the Service.”

"Prior to joining International and Dispute Resolution Services, Ms. Strimling worked as a mediator in FMCS’s Washington, D.C. field office, where she mediated collective bargaining and Equal Employment Opportunity disputes, facilitated consensus-building processes, and designed and led training programs on negotiation, mediation, facilitation, and consensus building. She joined FMCS after working as a mediator and consultant in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She has also served on the professional research staff of the Harvard Graduate School of Business Education, where she conducted research on international business, corporate social responsibility, and public-private partnerships, on the research staff of the Program on Nonviolent Sanctions at Harvard's Center for International Affairs, and as co-founder and director of a nongovernmental organization.

"Ms. Strimling holds a Bachelor of Arts cum laude from Dartmouth College and a Master of Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. She is currently a doctoral candidate at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University." [1]
