Algerian League for the Defense of Human Rights (LADDH)
In 2002 they received a $20,000 grant from the NED "To undertake a campaign for greater respect for human rights and rule of law in Algeria. The program will include small meetings with Algerian civil society representatives, a two-day national conference in Algiers, and the creation of a Web site to sustain an education and advocacy campaign for human rights." [1]
In 2004 they received another NED grant "To raise awareness of the need for the rule of law and respect for human rights in Algeria. LADDH will conduct four year-long campaigns centered on the necessity of lifting the state of the emergency; abrogating laws that impede democracy and free expression; advocacy on the rights of the disappeared; and advocacy for children's rights."
In 2005, they received another NED grant "To raise awareness of and work to reverse Algeria's anti-democratic practices. LADDH will continue its campaign to lift the state of emergency and launch a website as part of an outreach strategy." [2]
