Background
According to a Sudan National Electricity Corporation (NEC) Projects profile for 2005-2010 power plan for the country, NEC was planning a 500 MW Port Sudan Power Station. A pre-feasibility study had been completed.[1]
In December 2011, Harbin Electricity International of China and Sudan's Ministry of Electricity and Dams signed an MoU for a 2 × 300MW coal-fired power plant project in Sudan's Red Sea.[2]
However, as of 2014 there has been no news of further progress or permits issued, and the power station may have been cancelled.
