Institute for American Values

The Four Sisters-funded Institute for American Values "founded in 1987, is a private, nonpartisan organization devoted to contributing intellectually to the renewal of marriage and family life and the sources of competence, character, and citizenship. Accordingly, Institute activities are more than debates about policy - they are also conversations about culture and explorations of the American idea."[1]

"Through its an annual budget of about $1,000,000, financed primarily by tax-deductible contributions from foundations and individuals and the sale of publications, it is able to support a staff of nine, five of whom provide central staff support and four of whom are affiliate scholars. The Institute's affiliate scholars - Enola Aird, Maggie Gallagher, [Elizabeth Marquardt]], and Kathleen Kovner Kline - work in regional or home offices on projects concerning motherhood, marriage, the effects of divorce on children, and civil society."
