ProEnglish is a non-profit lobbying organization that describes itself as "the nation's leading advocate of official English".[1] The work of this anti-immigration group is dedicated to making English the one and only official language in the United States.[1]. ProEnglish was founded by John Tanton under the name English Language Advocates in 1994, become incorporated with a slew of other anti-immigration organization comprising the John Tanton Network.

ProEnglish role in immigration reform bill backlash

In 2013, ProEnglish has played a major role in the anti-immigration reform movement, along with numerous other groups in the John Tanton Network. This backlash comes in response to an immigration reform agenda introduced by a bipartisan group of senators in January.[2] ProEnglish has received $285,000 since 2001 from the Scaife Foundations, the sole funder of the organization and a strong supporter of anti-immigration laws.[2]
