Oracle Corporation is a giant enterprise software company based in Redwood City, California, U.S. Started in 1977, the company is now worth US$106 billion. Recently it has been aggressively acquiring other companies such as PeopleSoft, Siebel Systems, and Hyperion Solutions. [1] [2] [3]
Lawrence J. Ellison, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Oracle Corporation, is the 11th richest person in the world, having a personal wealth of US$21.5 billion. [4]

Overview
The "principal activity" of the Oracle Corporation, according to NASDAQ.com, "is to develop, manufacture, market and distribute computer software. The operations of the group are conducted through five business segments; License, license updates, consulting, support services and education. The license and license updates segment licenses database and applications software, grants customers the right to software product updates and maintenance releases. The consulting line of business assists customers in the implementation of applications. The support services include on-site support, telephone or internet access to support personnel as well as advanced product support services including remote database administration and performance monitoring and tuning. The education segment provides media-based, instructor-led and internet-based training to customers in use of the products. The license accounted for 36% of fiscal 2002 revenues; License updates, 25%; Consulting, 20%; Support services, 15% and education, 4%."
Political contributions
Oracle gave $80,809 to federal candidates in the 2006 election through its political action committee - 27% to Democrats and 73% to Republicans. [5]
