Zwelakhe Sisulu

In 1981 "Zwelakhe Sisulu, President of the Black Media Workers Association of South Africa (MWASA), and son of Walter Sisulu, was arrested". [1]

"Christopher Lydon reports that the Niemann Foundation has awarded Zwelakhe Sisulu (South African journalist) the Louis Lyons Award. Lydon notes that Sisulu has been jailed by the South African government. He adds that Sisulu has not been charged with a crime. Lydon's report includes footage of Michael Pride (Concord Monitor of Concord, NH) and Al Max (Chairman, Lyons Committee) at a press conference. Pride talks about Sisulu's courage. Max says that Sisulu is the third South African journalist to win the award. Lydon notes that Zwelakhe Sisulu is the son of Walter Sisulu (founder of the African National Congress). Lydon adds that Walter Sisulu has been jailed since 1964. Lydon notes that Walter Sisulu is featured prominently in a new documentary film about the life of Nelson Mandela (jailed ANC leader). Lydon's report includes photos of Zwelakhe Sisulu and footage from the Home Box Office (HBO) film Mandela. Lydon's report also includes footage of Fernando Lima (Mozambique News Agency) speaking about Zwelakhe Sisulu." [2][3]

"In 1994 he joined South African Broadcasting Corporation as CEO. Mr. Sisulu's current business interests include mining and energy, media, telecommunications and manufacturing. He is currently Chairman of Savannah Resources (Pty) Ltd., Dirleton Minerals & Energy (Pty) Ltd., and Executive Chairman of Afrimineral Holdings (Pty) Ltd. and Universal Media (Pty) Ltd. As Chairman of Savannah Resources (Pty) Ltd., Mr. Sisulu was the lead partner in the Savannah Consortium that recently completed the acquisition of a 29.5% interest in Aquarius Platinum (South Africa) involving an equity contribution of approximately US$132 million. Mr. Sisulu was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of Aquarius Platinum Limited, an extremely successful South African PGM producer." [1]

"Mr. Sisulu also controls Gubevu Consortium Investment, the Company's Black Economic Empowerment (“BEE”) partner in Barplats Investments Ltd. which holds the Crocodile River Mine and the Kennedy’s Vale Project, and Afriminerals (Proprietary) Limited, the Company’s BEE partner in the Spitzkop Project. Mr. Sisulu graduated from the Nieman Fellowship Program for journalism at Harvard University in 1985." [4]
