US Investigations Services
Overview
US Investigations Services (USIS) was formerly the Office of Federal Investigations, a US government agency in the Office of Personnel Management, until it was transformed into a private, employee-owned company by President Clinton and Congress.
Today, USIS is the nation's largest investigative and support services companies with offices all over the country and over two million cases completed a year.
At the end of the fiscal year in 2005, USIS posted $750 million in sales. [1][2][3]
USIS still provides many of the same services to the government as they have for decades since their orginal mandate after the Garfield assassination to vet the "background, suitability and loyalty of Federal employees and applicants". They now also provide these services to the private sector. [4]
Other services provided include business intelligence and risk management.
Iraq
In the spring of 2004, USIS was given a $200 million contract by the US military's Civilian Police Assistance Training Team to help train police in counterinsurgency operations. [5]
USIS has been in the news in late 2005 due to the alleged suicide by the oversight officer in charge, Col. Ted Westhusing. Westhusing had initiated an investigation into charges that at least one USIS contractor had taken an offensive role in the November 2004 assault on Fallujah. [6]
