Richard T. McCormack
Richard T. "Dick" McCormack joined Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. as vice chairman on August 1, 2006. [1]
McCormack is a former U.S. ambassador to the Organization of American States (1985-1989) and a former Under Secretary of State for Economic and Agricultural Affairs (1989-1991). During the George H.W. Bush administration, McCormack "served as the principal coordinator for the President's involvement in the G7 economic summits." [2][3] Early in the Ronald Reagan Administration, McCormack "served as a consultant to the Department of State on international economic matters", was Assistant Secretary of State (Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs) from 1982 through 1985 [4], and was "awarded the State Department's highest award" by then-Secretary of State James A. Baker III. [5][6] McCormack also served on the board of directors of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation. [7]

"Earlier in his career, McCormack served as a policy analyst in both the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. He was Deputy to the Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for International Economic Affairs in 1974. [9] During the Gerald R. Ford administration, following his tenure at the U.S. Treasury, he was a trade negotiations consultant to the White House. [10]
"He also served as a senior staff member of the President's Advisory Council on Executive Organization at the White House, where he had lead responsibilities for developing the rationale and structure" for the Council on International Economic Policy in 1972.[11][12]
McCormack served as a legislative assistant to Sen. Jesse Helms from 1979 to 1981. [13]
"From 1975-1977, he was a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute." [14]
"He was director of operations research with Philco Ford Corporation in South Vietnam in 1968; a foreign affairs staff member of the 1968 Republican Presidential Campaign organization; and a campaign assistant in the 1967 Philadelphia mayoral race.

From 2004 until July 2006, McCormack was a senior adviser at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and has been a "long-term high-level adviser to political leaders and senior government officials", with his "primary focus" on "geopolitics and the global economy. Among his principal interests is the role of the international financial institutions in preventing and containing financial crises, and policy reforms in selected economies." [16][17]
"Prior to joining CSIS, Ambassador McCormack was a Counselor at the Center for the Study of the Presidency, a member of the State Department's Advisory Commission on Africa, and a consultant/adviser to the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund." [18]
