Rebeca Nieves Huffman

"As the President of the Hispanic Council for Reform and Educational Options (HCREO), Rebeca Nieves Huffman travels the country as a national voice for the right of Hispanic children to have equal access to all educational options. An alumna of City Year Chicago, Ms. Huffman witnessed the inequities within the public education system during her service as a corps member and team leader. She now brings the passion for teaching and education that she developed through her experiences with City Year to improve educational outcomes for Hispanic children.

"Ms. Huffman came to HCREO after having served as the Associate Director of Recruitment and Selection for the Knowledge is Power Program (KIPP), an organization dedicated to providing historically underserved students with the knowledge, skills, and character needed to succeed in top-quality high schools, colleges, and the competitive world beyond.

"In April 2004, City Year was pleased to name Ms. Huffman as a Trustee of the Board of Directors, representing the voice of over 8,000 City Year alumni. Ms. Huffman received her bachelor’s degree from Columbia College." [1]
