Pablo Eisenberg

"Prior to coming to the Georgetown Public Policy Institute as a Senior Fellow at the Center for Public & Nonprofit Leadership, Eisenberg served for 23 years as Executive Director of the Center for Community Change, a national technical assistance and advocacy organization working with low-income constituencies nationwide. He has actively contributed to national discourse on government accountability and reform, the role of philanthropy, and theachievements and problems of the nonprofit sector.

"Eisenberg has published numerous articles and chapters of books and has a regular monthly column in The Chronicle of Philanthropy. He has held senior positions with the U.S. Information Agency in Africa, Operation Crossroads Africa, Office for Economic Opportunity, and the National Urban Coalition. He is a founder and Vice-Chair of the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy and President of Friends of VISTA. He serves on prominent national boards, such as the Environmental Support Center, The Nonprofit Sector Research Fund of the Aspen Institute, and Eureka Communities. In 1998, The Nonprofit Times selected Eisenberg as one of the 50 most influential people in the American nonprofit sector. That same year, he was the recipient of the national John Gardner Leadership Award sponsored by the Independent Sector." [1]

"After serving in the U.S. Army, Eisenberg worked for the USIA (1960-63) in Africa. From 1963-65, he served as the program director of Operation Crossroads, which provided a model for the new Peace Corps. Next (1965-68), as deputy director for Research and Development at the Office of Economic Opportunity, he worked as part of the "War on Poverty." He then served as director for the Office of Liaisons/National Issues at the National Urban Coalition (1968-1973).

"Following a short stint as a private consultant, Eisenberg became the third director of the Center for Community change in 1975... On June 30, 1998, Eisenberg retired from CCC leadership after 23 years." [1]

"The Donee Group – a wide-ranging coalition of nonprofit groups and free thinking individuals was organized by Pablo [Eisenberg] in 1975 and began meeting in tandem with the Filer Commission." [2]
