National Council of Negro Women
The National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization made up of "39 national affiliates and more than 200 sections," according to its website. Its mission is "to lead, develop, and advocate for women of African descent as they support their families and communities." [1]
According to the Department of Education's Office of Inspector General report on Department PR expenditures in fiscal years 2002 through 2004, NCNW received $864,234 in 2002 - 2004, "to ignite a movement in communities across the country to close the achievement gap by utilizing new provisions in NCLB" (the No Child Left Behind Act) and "to promote a national dialogue among African-American leaders to raise importance of early reading."
