Secondhand cigarette smoke caused a permanent disability ever an eight-year period

This computer printout of a 1991 newspaper article describes a case where a Wisconsin state commission awarded $23,400 to a 37 year old accountant who claimed that prolonged exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke in the workplace resulted in her developing a permanent sensitivity to fumes. In her workplace, she had shared a cubicle with a chain smoker and was surrounded by smokers. She subsequently developed various ailments including headaches, nausea, fatigue and dizziness, which caused her to miss work and get fired. The plaintiff collected the money and her employer decided not to appeal.
