Michael Armacost

Michael Armacost is a member of the Advisory Board of America Abroad Media.

Armacost is "the Shorenstein Distinguished Fellow at the Asia Pacific Center at Stanford University. He was President of The Brookings Institution in Washington DC from 1995 until July 2002. Prior to his tenure at Brookings, Michael Armacost served as U.S. Ambassador to Japan from 1989 to 1993, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs from 1984-1989, and Ambassador to the Philippines from 1982-1984. Ambassador Armacost has taught at Pomona College, Georgetown University, Johns Hopkins University, and International Christian University. His books include Asian Alliances and American Politics (1999) and Friends or Rivals? The Insider's Account of U.S.-Japan Relations (1996). Ambassador Armacost received his Ph.D. and M.A. from Columbia University."[1]
