Louis Boorstin

Louis Boorstin "is a Deputy Director in the Global Development Program of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Mr. Boorstin leads the foundation’s initiative to improve water, sanitation and hygiene in the developing world, which has committed more than $165 million through 18 grants to date.

"Prior to joining the foundation in 2005, Mr. Boorstin spent 15 years at International Finance Corporation, where he held a number of positions, including Manager of IFC’s Environmental Finance Group. Under Mr. Boorstin’s leadership, this group grew funds under management from $20 million to over $250 million, investing in projects ranging from solar power, to clean water, to eco-tourism. Mr. Boorstin also launched IFC’s entry into the carbon finance field. Mr. Boorstin previously worked in IFC’s Asia Department, financing industrial projects such as cement, wood products, and shipping.

"Before joining IFC, Mr. Boorstin was an investment banker in a Wall Street firm for five years. He holds a B.A. in Economics from Yale University and an M.B.A. and M.A. (Development Economics) from Stanford University. " [1]
