"Guardian Media Group (GMG) is one of the UK’s leading media organisations. We exist to support quality, independent, liberal journalism. Our core business is Guardian News & Media, which publishes the Guardian and the Observer newspapers and the guardian.co.uk website. We also have a diverse portfolio of investments to help support our journalism. We are wholly owned by the Scott Trust, which was established in 1936 to secure the ongoing independence of the Guardian.

"The Scott Trust is a private company and the sole shareholder in GMG. It was founded in 1936 as a trust and exists to secure the financial and editorial independence of the Guardian in perpetuity. The shareholders of the Trust take no dividend from the business. All of GMG’s profits are reinvested to support the Trust’s core purpose." [1]
