Gary Webb was the journalist who wrote a series of stories in the San Jose Mercury News about the CIA involvement in the spread of crack cocaine in California. The series, titled "Dark Alliance", has been reposted to the Internet and print published as a book (ISBN 1888363932).
Gary Webb won a 1990 Pulitzer Prize, received the 1997 Media Hero award, and in 1996 was named Journalist of the Year by the Bay Area Society of Professional Journalists. He worked on several newspapers until being forced out of his job after the San Jose Mercury News retracted their support for the Dark Alliance story. [1]
