Biography
In 1952, Dr. E. Cuyler Hammond and Daniel Horn of the American Cancer Society began a massive prospective study of 187,000 smokers and nonsmokers. The death rate from cancer for smokers was five times the rate for nonsmokers (E. Whelan 1984).
