Cynthia Carroll "is Chief Executive of Anglo American plc. Anglo American plc has a market capitalization of US$80bn and is ranked 10th on FTSE 100, London Stock Exchange. It is a global mining group operating in 65 countries, with 190,000 employees producing gold, platinum, diamonds, nickel, copper, zinc, coal, iron ore, aggregates and paper and packaging.

"Before joining Anglo American in January 2007 she was President and Chief Executive Officer, Primary Metal Group and an officer of Alcan Inc., located in Montreal, Canada. She was responsible for 54 wholly or partially-owned operations in 21 countries across North and South America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Africa and the Middle East. Total sales produced by the Primary Metal Group approximated US $10 billion, supported by close to 18,000 employees.

"Prior to assuming her position as President and CEO of Alcan’s Primary Metal Group, Cynthia was President of Bauxite, Alumina and Specialty Chemicals, which was at that time a US$2.5 billion business with 5,000 employees in operations across Europe, North and South America, Africa and the Caribbean. From January 1996 to November 1998, she was Managing Director of Aughinish Alumina Limited, a subsidiary of Alcan Aluminium Limited in Ireland and from 1991 to 1996 she was Vice-President/General Manager of Alcan Foil Products in Louisville, Kentucky. She joined Alcan in 1989, in the business development group of the Rolled Products Division in Cleveland. Before joining Alcan, she worked for Amoco for eight years as a petroleum geologist in oil exploration based in Denver, Colorado and covering areas in the states of Wyoming, Utah, Montana and Alaska.

"Cynthia Carroll holds a Masters of Science degree in Geology from the University of Kansas and a Masters of Business Administration from Harvard University. Cynthia and her husband have four children ranging in ages from seven to thirteen." [1]
